As you probably noticed, Naruto has been licensed and thus removed from scarywater. See the announcement here; it will air on Cartoon Network. This is good news :-)
Ok, most of the system is back to normal. The stats are now calculated on a new server
(which took some time to set up; it should have been ready last tuesday, but I hit pretty much
every "mishap" button at the provider I could. It all worked out in the end, but it took quite a
lot longer than I had hoped). They should be live again. Over the next few weeks, more parts of the
site will move to the new server. If possible, all of it will (to cut costs a little; the new
server is another $190/month), but first I have to be sure this won´t happen again.
Anyway, have fun :)
Sorry about the stats for new torrents not appearing (and old torrents not updating). They are
being calculated, but a day or two behind. The machine doing them needs more RAM or more CPU or both,
which is being worked on, however, due to immense stress (related to several university projects/finals/deadlines),
I have not yet been able to get it done. So while proper stats will return, it will probably be another
week before that is a reality.
Note that this does not impact tracker operation -- the .torrents should work fine and are not hampered
by the lack of stats on the website.
Oh, and Happy New Year, everybody ;)
As most of you already know, Media Factory Inc.'s law office has requested their series not to be fansubbed or shared anymore. As this is a legitimate request from the rights owners of these shows, a.scarywater.net will no longer host them. I have started removing the .torrents currently present. Affected series include
AnimeSuki has a page with more details, as well.
There are some ads on the site now. As before, if they really bother you, you can go turn them off (or read a little more about them) with a cookie.
Whee, another downtime. Sorry. This time the server was moved to remote reboot strips at ev1; they announced
said change, but gave a large window which I was unfortunately not home at. Basically the machine was
rebooted and a backend process did not come back up.
On the up side, the tracker was (once again) not affected.
I´m working on making the website redundantly hosted on another server at another DC, which should#
minimize downtimes such as this one. Once again, sorry.
The webserver crashed. Investigating. Should be fine from here on out. Tracker was not affected.
Sorry, there was a small outage today. It should be fixed now. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Sorry, another 1.5 hours of downtime. This time the machine got shut off, likely due to a power outage -- still investigating. Everything SHOULD be back up now.
Sorry, the tracker suffered a few hours of downtime. A harddisk filled up, which was not supposed to ever happen. I´ll monitor that more rigorously in the future.
Well, ads no more. Google has written in to let me know that they do not consider this site to be one suitable for AdSense, and disabled them. This is within their rights to do, so I can hardly complain. Happy surfing ;)
It's now possible to enable ads on the site -- these would be Google AdSense ads, i.e. no pop-ups or any such nonsense. You can disable them again at any time (there should be a link below them to do it with). If you want to play around with it, enable them here (or have a look at the lowest box on the right); this is an entirely optional way to support the site; I have taken care to position them where they should neither bother you nor change the layout.
The BitTorrent tracker had to have its port changed from 6969 to 443 due to the ISP where the tracker
is hosted blocking port 6969 tcp on its network (according to them, this step was neccessary due to
significant increase of GateCrasher Trojan activity on that port in general).
All scarywater torrents have been changed to the new announce url now.
What this means is that you need to redownload any .torrent you were previously on to connect again.
Sorry for the inconvenience; it was out of my hands.
The tracker-codebase has been upgraded during the last couple of days; it should prove to be faster and more efficient, now. More performance enhancements on the way, provided yours truely finds the time ;)
Ok, tracker is now back on talan; Catching up on stats. Everything SHOULD be back to normal later tonight :-)
Tracker seems to have crashed. Investigating.
Seems the power supply is fried. Will move tracker over to old server until fixed; there will be no
stats for this period, sorry.
Well things should be back to normal. Second server is up & operational, as are stats. I have turned off proxying for the "old" announce url (which was changed on November 17), so if you encounter any 404 errors in the BitTorrent client, please download a new copy of the .torrent.
I have just turned the second server on. There will be some bumps (particularily in stats), but on the
whole, the site should work a lot smoother now.
Have fun, and some nice holidays :)
Update half an hour later : Sorry, but stats will be out of comission for a while while I work on some
performance issues between servers. Nothing's lost, but you may see a couple of errors on the page.
They'll be gone when I'm finished and stats will be current again, promise ;)
Update a day or two later : Now processing the backlog. Stats should be up and operational again within
a couple of hours.
The Server is under a distributed Denial of Service (dDoS) attack. Connectivity will be intermittent,
and if it doesn't stop, the server may get taken offline permanently. Gotta love the kiddies.
Oh, BTW, Happy Holidays everybody. May yours not include such idiots.
As you may have noticed, the site is a bit overworked atm. I am working on it, but the ride may be a little shaky for the next couple of days. Another server will be set up (thanks to all who donated, this is possible :) -- please bear with the shakiness until then.
Some minor changes to the page; the Donations-section has been offloaded to a page of its own, there are now a few colorful statistics on the right side as well, the statscode has been updated, and a few more groups now have pages here.
Wolf´s Rain, .Hack Legend of Twilight Bracelet, Stratos 4, Narue no Sekai, and Magical Nyan Nyan Taruto have been licensed and thus removed from the page.
Sorry, the server had a hickup this morning. Everything appears to be functioning normally now, but for
the overall graphs; Historic data will be recalculated soon, in the meantime, the graphs are lacking
a couple of months of data.
Also, Hikaru no Go is licensed and therefore gone from the page.
Kiddy Grade, Last Exile, Earth Defender Mao Chan, Panyo Panyo Digi Charat, and Figure 17 have been licensed and thus removed from the site. Please do not mail me about them, they will not be back; please buy the DVDs instead :-)
The host was down for approximately two hours during a rather heavy dDoS attack (likely originating
from Korea, judging from the logs I have; more than 1000 IPs participated :-( )
RackShack was quick to respond and cut off the traffic; I hope
the attack is over now.
Sheesh, Grow up.
Server move mostly complete. I hope you all didn't notice all that many disturbances :)
WHR, Mahoromatic S2, and Azumanga Daioh have been licensed (announced @ Anime Boston 2003) and have thus
been removed. Look forward to their DVD release ! :)
Right now, aniverse is accessible for me ... I guess I'll set up a bouncer anyway for the future :)
The new server has been ordered, and I'm almost finished setting it all up. In the next 2-3 days,
scarywater will move there. If all goes well, you shouldn't even notice :)
Thanks to all who donated; you are keeping this site alive :) (literally, it's eating over 250g of traffic
per month ;)
Problem still exists. I could log on sporadically, but now everything is blocked again. Gotta love them script kiddies.
Aniverse is blocking my ISP and hosting providers in Germany. Sorry for not adding new torrents from aniverse-based groups. I simply can't get into contact with them
Since there have been a lot of donations (THANK YOU !), I will order a dedicated server from RackShack soon, thanks to all who donated :)
